Devitt ready to go once more for Treaty United

Newmarket’s Lee Devitt will be hoping to lead from the front as Treaty United’s season kicks off this Friday. The tie is certainly an interesting one for Devitt as Treaty United face off against his old club Cobh Ramblers. With Markets Field set to host its first league game in 125 days, the Newmarket man is chomping at the bit to kickstart another campaign in Limerick. “I can’t wait for the new season to start. Everyone is buzzing to get underway. Our last league game was back in November, so it has been a while. The excitement is really building, and my phone hasn’t stopped all week with people looking for tickets, so the anticipation is building, and everyone is ready for Friday night.” The 23 year old made his league debut in 2018 with Limerick FC but despite the early taste of domestic football, the midfielder’s love of the game comes firmly from his Clare roots. Clare soccer club’s grounds-keeping tractor vandalised

A TRACTOR belonging to soccer club Shannon Hibernians was the target of vandals last weekend with the culprits even putting petrol in to its diesel tank. “They must have jumped over our fence, we have a fence around the pitch, but they went in and smashed up the tractor. They smashed the windows, they broke off the exhaust pipe. It runs off diesel, and they put oil and petrol into the diesel tank,” said club PRO Aaron Leahy. Gardai were called and have visited the scene, but the culprits have not been identified. The club put a post on social media about it this week, in the hope that some parents may be prompted to realise what their children have been doing. “Some parents might have seen their kids going back into the house with oil or petrol on their hands. “We would hope that parents would deal with it, we just wanted to highlight what has happened. There is a …

Premier League wrap: Bridge United finish on a high

Lifford AFC 1 Bridge United 2 Bridge United secured a final day victory as Mark Colbert’s side finished comfortably in fourth place. A victory here for Lifford would have seen them finish fifth. However, this defeat coupled with Mountshannon Celtic’s victory over Shannon Hibs ensured that Adrian Walsh’s side finished sixth. Lifford will be relatively pleased with their season as despite some early poor results, they were able to finish comfortably in the middle of the pack. Leon Daly gave Bridge an early lead but that strike was cancelled out by Niall Guinnane as the sides retired to the dressing rooms level at 1-1. The second half saw both sides push forward in search of a winner but with little in the line for either outfit, the game lacked the necessary cut and thrust that both of these sides have displayed throughout the 2021/22 season. Bridge managed to find the winning goal when 16-year-old Darragh Hayes struck a late winner …

Shannon Hibs get behind brave Alex

TEN-year-old Shannon boy Alex O’Shaughnessy is currently in Essen, Germany, receiving Proton Beam Therapy. It’s a cutting edge treatment for rare disease Embroyonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, which Alex was diagnosed with earlier this year. The family arrived in Germany on August 13 and on Wednesday, Alex’s mother, Agnes, said he had received 20 sessions of the Proton Beam Therapy, with 11 more left. He has also had a cycle of chemotherapy while in Germany and will have another before he returns to Ireland. “It’s only about half an hour a day for the treatment. There is one day-a-week where he sees the doctors and there are a couple of dressing changes. It’s just one day-a-week when we’re there for most of the day,” said Agnes. Alex has coped quite well with the treatment. “He’s good. There have been some minor side-effects. He’s having it near his throat, so there are some little issues but they are well on top of things here …
