Reah pours soul into debut poetry volume

The Caher woman has been finding her creative voice over the course of the last year-and-a-half, when lockdowns kept many people at home with a little extra time on their hands. “I don’t sit down to write,” she said. “The poems just keep coming. It could be something that comes into my head while I’m reading or watching TV, or a poem could be sparked by something someone says. “It’s been a childhood dream to write and lockdown started something by giving me more time for creativity.” Last year, the Wexford native launched her first CD collection of poetry to give something back to the Irish Kidney Association (AKA). Postscript for Heaney from Clare

Just two weeks after his gentle voice hushed an audience in Glór, County Clare has been paying tributes to literary giant Seamus Heaney. The 74-year-old Nobel Laureate died in hospital in Dublin on Friday after a short illness. He was in Clare with friend and fellow poet Michael Longley as part of the Merriman Summer School last month. Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara paid tribute to the late poet, saying his death is a loss for Ireland. “However, he will always live through his poetry and his ability to speak to the heart with compassion and the understanding of a seer,” he said. Deputy McNamara also spoke about the impact of the poet and his work on him personally. “Seamus Heaney influenced generations of young people who studied him at school or who read his poetry for other reasons.
