ALL-IRELAND-winning Clare captain, Pat Donnellan  will be the most recent representative from the county invited to take part in fundraiser for Pieta House. For the first time in the history of the GAA, all 100 surviving All-Ireland-winning captains in hurling and football have been invited to come together in a unique event in aid Pieta House. Nearly 70 have already confirmed that they will attend what is to be the greatest ever gathering of GAA legends from all over Ireland, going all the way back to the Meath captain of 1949, Brian Smith. They will all take part in the final leg of 100k Steps for Cormac, a remarkable three-day fundraising walk throughout County Galway, taking place from August 28 to August 30. An Ennis undertaker has put himself in the frame for Pieta House by organising a charity auction of 12 of his oil paintings. Sean Daly, who has worked with his father, Joe for the last nine years, will unveil his eye-catching exhibition of paintings upstairs in Tom Steele’s Pub, Lifford, this Sunday. Inspired by the death of a close friend through suicide in 2012, Mr Daly was determined to raise money for the regional suicide prevention centre. In addition to acquiring a BA in Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitian University when he studied sculpture and photography, he also holds a certificate in animation, which also involves a lot of painting. He is also preparing for another art exhibition in the Ennistymon Courthouse Gallery next month. Each oil on canvass painting took him about one month to complete. RENOWNED Irish singer Mary Coughlan will visit Ennis this month where she will officially launch the Ennis Women’s Shed, the first such organisation in Europe. The launch will take place as part of Ennis Men’s Shed’s first national conference to be held in the county capital. The conference, titled ‘No Man is an Island’ will take place on April 25 and 26 in the West County Hotel. Frank McNamara, facilitator, Ennis Men’s Shed explained, “As the Men’s Sheds were set up to enhance or maintain the wellbeing of the participating men, this conference entitled “No man is an island”, will explore how this objective can be attained using the concept of men’s sheds.” It is hoped that the “No man is an island” conference will show how the men’s shed can be used as a tool to enhance the men’s wellbeing, both mentally and physically.” This conference will be opened by Councillor Mary Coote Ryan, Mayor of Ennis and will …
