By Nicola Corless WELL-known community development worker, Adrian Feeney, has announced his intention to run in the local elections later this month. The Gort resident will compete for votes in South Galway, with sitting councillors Fine Gael’s Bridie Willers from Grannagh, Independent Michael Fahy from Caherduff and Fianna Fáil’s Gerry Finnerty from Ballymurphy. Mr Feeney will run as an independent candidate in the eight-seat Loughrea Electoral Area. “I decided to run on Monday,” he told The Clare Champion. “While I will run in the Loughrea Electoral Area, I want to focus mainly on Gort and its surroundings,” he added. This will be Mr Feeney’s third attempt to gain a seat on Galway County Council, having run in 2004 and 2009. COUNCILLOR Tom Prendeville put forward the last ever motion, in the 129 year history of Kilrush Town Council, at last Thursday’s April monthly meeting. In his speech he accused the West Clare Task Force of talking about but not delivering any jobs in the region. While the final town council meeting will be held in May, councillors have said that the meeting will be a reflection on the history of local government in Kilrush and will not include motions pertaining to current issues. In the final motion, which was supported by his eight council colleagues, Councillor Prendeville said that the West Clare Economic Task Force had delivered nothing in terms of job creation. “The only thing we learned from the West Clare Task Force was that it spent over one hundred hours as a talking shop and yet failed to create even a single job. A WASTE management company has been requested to ensure bins are not collected in  Shannon as early as they are on Saturdays at the moment. Local Sinn Féin spokesman Mike McKee said, “This company charges over  €300 for 12 months bin collections and they should be treating their customers with more respect and dignity than driving through housing estates at such an early time on the weekend, creating a racket that wakes people unnecessarily. “The company is collecting bins at 6am on a Saturday, while all other bin companies collect at a reasonable hour from Monday to Friday. Sinn Fein plan to pressure the company to cease its bin collection at an unacceptable time on a Saturday,” he said. Mr McKee was speaking after he was re-elected as chairperson of Sinn Féin in Shannon.
