Ennis targets tidiest town title

LOCAL community group representatives and members of the business community in Ennis gathered in the Old Ground Hotel this week for the launch of an initiative aimed at enhancing the Clare county town’s chances of becoming Ireland’s tidiest town. Ennis Tidy Towns Committee launched its new website, www.ennistidytowns.com, and a community-wide campaign called On The Move To Become Ireland’s Tidiest Town, to help Ennis achieve national success in the 2016 competition. The three-year plan aims to address new criteria of the competition, including waste management and biodiversity. The initiative also features a heavy focus on community involvement and encouraging local residents, community groups and businesses to work together to improve the overall appearance of the town. The first major initiative being undertaken as part of the plan takes place on April 18, when communities will be invited to participate in a large clean-up that is being facilitated by Clare County Council, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, The Lions Club, Clare …

Visit Ennis Guide proves a hit

A new version of the Visit Ennis Guide is now available and it’s proving a big hit for families and shoppers seeking to make the most of what’s on in and around the county town. The free visitor guide features sections on ‘what to do and see’, shopping, accommodation, travel, emergency services as well as dining and entertainment. Now in its third edition, the Visit Ennis Guide is an initiative of Promote Ennis who contracted local company Actonbv to manage the publication process. Chairman of Promote Ennis, Brian O’Neill, is delighted by the both the standard of the publication and the feedback amongst visitors and local businesses. Ennis crime under review

The Ennis Chamber Garda Accord met this week to review actions from the last Ennis Joint Policing Committee Meeting and to discuss the recent crimes on businesses in the town. Ennis Chamber established the Ennis Chamber Garda Accord in 2003 as a method of close communication and interaction between the business community and gardaí. Projects have included the establishment of the Business Liaison Garda Post and the campaign to install a state-of-the-art public CCTV system for Ennis, as well as ongoing collaboration in relation to the Key Holders Registry, Christmas pedestrianisation and crime prevention seminars. Representatives of Ennis Chamber raised the concerns of the business community in relation to the recent burglaries with Inspector Tom Kennedy, who reported on progress that has been made in relation to the crimes. He also referred to the advice and support that is available to businesses in terms of crime prevention measures, which is a free service from gardaí.

Fourth defibrillator for Ennis

A LOCAL  group, who have been bringing potentially life saving defibrillators to the streets of Ennis, have just installed their fourth device. The Ennis Defibrillator Committee is behind the installation of a new defibrillator at Roslevan this week. And there are plans to provide four more in the future with a fundraising quiz planned for next Thursday in the West County Hotel. According to the fundraising committee chairman Paul O’Shea, “Each defibrillator costs €2,300 and the committee have raised enough money to purchase four units. These units are positioned at key locations throughout Ennis. We can’t believe that in these hard times, that we have now purchased four units. The generosity of the Clare public is astounding. In addition, Ennis is in the process of achieving the status of ‘Heart Safe Town’ the much coveted award from the Irish Heart Foundation.” The fund raising committee includes the Clare Red Cross, Ennis Chamber, Avondale Soccer club and other businesses/community groups.
