A 30 year old man has appeared before a sitting of Ennis District Court this Thursday in connection with an alleged hit and run incident at Knockadoon, Tulla on October 28 last. James O’Donoghue with an address at Bay 8, Lynch’s Lane, Clondalkin, Dublin 2, appeared before Judge Aeneas McCarthy on Thursday charged with a single charge of dangerous driving at Knockadoon on October 28. Inspector Tom Kennedy, prosecuting, outlined that the State would allege that the accused was involved “in a hit and run incident in which the defendant crashed his car into another vehicle, he then left the scene and later turned up at hospital”. Garda Darren McLoughlin of Scariff garda station gave evidence of arresting the defendant, charging him and administering the relevant caution. THE people of Quin have decided to set up a Community Alert for the village and its surrounds, following a public meeting held this week. Organised by Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy, the information meeting discussed crime in the area, crime prevention and issues around anti-social behaviour. A large gathering attended Quin Community Centre on Monday night, where presentations were given by Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Joe Downey, Peter Butler of Task Community Care, deputising for Bernard Kearney of Muintir na Tíre and Quin liaison garda, Caitríona Mangan. Mr Butler spoke about the benefits of personal alarms for older people in the community, while Sergeant Downey gave a presentation on crime prevention measures that homeowners can take to secure their properties. Questions were taken from the floor and the primary issue raised was the desire to re-open Quin garda station. If this is not possible, the community want an increased garda presence. Gardaí in Ennis are investigating an assault on a woman in which paint was sprayed into her face. The incident occurred on Tuesday September 30 last at approximately 9.25am, while the injured party was out walking at Aughanteeroe on the Gort Road, Ennis with some members of her family. She was approached by two other females and one of them sprayed red paint into her face. They then fled the scene. Gardaí in Ennis are appealing for witnesses to this crime, and anyone with information is asked to contact them. Separately,  in Ennis gardaí are investigating after windows in the glass houses at the Dulick centre on the Gort Road were broken by rocks. The centre, which is used by people with intellectual and physical disabilities, was targeted between 4pm on Friday September 26 and 9.30am on Monday September 29. GSOC investigators are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic incident in the village of Parteen, in South East Clare in which three male pedestrians were injured on Thursday evening. A Hyundai Accent, which was being pursued by gardai after the car and its occupants were acting suspiciously in Doonass, County Clare earlier that evening. The car, which is believed to have been carrying two males, struck a parked car at the entrance to the Parteen Pitch and Putt course and three pedestrians. Two of the men who were in their 70s were injured in the incident and a further man was treated for shock. All three had played pitch and putt that evening and were crossing from Browne’s pub in the village at approximately 5pm, when they were struck. It is understood that one of the men in his late 70s has had a leg amputated following the incident. One male suspect was arrested close to the scene …

Two men  in their 20s arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary at Shyan, Kilmihil  this week have been released without charge. On Wednesday at 12.15pm gardai arrested two men from Limerick city in connection with the aggravated burglary, which occurred between between 6.30pm and 7pm on August 10. Both were detained at Ennistymon and Kilrush Garda stations and were held overnight. They were released without charge on Thursday evening and a file is to be sent to the Director of Prosecution. Gardai in Kilrush would like to appeal to anyone who has information concerning this crime to come forward and assist the Gardai with their enquiries. GARDAÍ are appealing for information in relation to a number of crimes which have taken place in the county in the past number of weeks. In Kilmaley witnesses are being sought after the Kilmaley Inagh Water Treatment Plant was broken into between 6pm on Sunday, August 31 and 8.30am on Monday, September 1 last. The water treatment plant is located at Lisroe and entry was gained by forcing in the front door. Thieves made off with a Grey Pedrello water pump, two yellow 20 foot Toby hoses, a shovel, and a red M6 power washer model Max 11 litres. Also in Kilmaley, gardaí are investigating after a number of items of property were stolen from a shed at Knaockadangan. This incident occurred between 9.30am and 11am on Monday, September 1. A rubber material bridle, pinchers, and a black saddle with brown girth and stirrups were stolen. Meanwhile, in Sixmilebridge a house in the Cluain Droichead estate was burgled between 1.30am …

A 17 year- old East Clare girl was lucky not to lose her eye after being shot with a pellet gun by another teen in Tulla on Friday. The incident occurred on the village’s Main Street at approximately 3.30pm, when the secondary school student was shot by a male of a similar age while she was standing outside a local shop. Gardai say that the shot was fired from a car and that the plastic bearing struck the girl in the face. A senior garda in Killaloe said the girl “was very lucky not to lose an eye”.  She was treated by a doctor but did not require hospitalisation. It is understood that gardai spoke with the male teenager and the pellet gun has been seized by gardai and will not be retured. Gardai have advised that although these pellet guns are legal they are “dangerous when fired indiscriminately in the direction of a person”. Carol Byrne

Gardai are treating a petrol bomb assault at Ennis Court House as an attack on the county’s centre of justice and on one of its most iconic historical buildings. Scenes of crime gardaí have just concluded a forensic examination at the court house after a petrol bomb was thrown through a window of the Family Law Court room shortly before 4am on Thursday morning. The culprit targeted a ground floor window of court room number 3 to the rear of the court house, which is where family law matters are typically dealt with in Ennis. Detective Inspector John Galvin is leading the investigation and said the petrol bomb was made using “some kind of glass device with accelerant in it and material”. “Someone knew how to put it [the petrol bomb] together alright.
