New Public Participation Network

Clare County Council has announced the establishment of a new forum aimed at enhancing and expanding the role played by the public in formulating local government policy and the future development of communities. The Public Participation Network (PPN), which replaces the Clare Community Forum, will be the new representative voice of the community, voluntary and environmental sectors in Clare. An information briefing and registration event will be held at Glór in Ennis at 7.00pm on Wednesday, December 3. The event will outline how community, voluntary, social inclusion and environmental groups can benefit from the new network and why they should consider becoming members. Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council,  John Crowe said the PPN will enable community groups to interact with local government at different levels, as well as facilitate Clare County Council in developing policy and in plan making. ‘Bridge raises fifth Green Flag

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, John Crowe returned to his alma mater last week to unfurl the school’s fifth Green Flag. He was assisted in hoisting the flag by Aoibheann Kennedy and Emma O’Connor, members of the Green Schools Committee. For a number of years now, Sixmilebridge National School has been participating in the Green Schools initiative, which encourages schools, pupils and families to learn about waste, conservation and sustainability. Every two years or so, they explore a new theme in order to apply for the renewal of their Green Flag. The theme for this year, their fifth Green Flag, was biodiversity and, through the biodiversity theme, students learned how they can all play a big part in protecting the natural world. Two senior members of the Green Schools Committee, Saoirse Downes and Aoibhe Ward Murphy, spoke on behalf of the committee. Cathaoirleach welcomes establishment of Shannon Group

CATHAOIRLEACH of Clare County Council, John Crowe says Shannon Airport and the surrounding Free Zone have “never been better placed than now to generate new business.” Councuillor John Crowe was speaking following the formal establishment by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe of Shannon Group plc, which brings together Shannon Airport, Shannon Commercial Enterprises Limited, Shannon Heritage and The International Aviation Services Centre (IASC). The Cathaoirleach commented: “Ever since autonomy was granted to Shannon Airport there has been a sizeable growth in passenger numbers and new services. Likewise, the fortunes of the Shannon Free Zone and businesses based there have improved considerably during the past 18 months. Furthermore, tourism figures throughout the Mid West Region are also on the rise which is no small part down to the strong leadership that has been shown by those behind the positive developments that have taken place in Shannon.” He continued: “The Minister’s formal establishment of the new entity will also …
