Council CEO calls for ‘champions’ in battle against Covid-19

CHAMPIONS are needed in every family and parish across the county in order to win the battle against the coronavirus, according to the CEO of Clare County Council. Making an appeal to the public to continue to stick to government guidelines and to avoid complacency, as Ireland sets out on the road to re-opening, Pat Dowling also thanked the public for their efforts to-date. “We are very grateful for all of the sacrifices everyone has made,” he said. “We understand that there can be slippage and fatigue, but we must continue to comply, and to adapt in order to survive. We have to persevere in order to prevail. We have civil leadership from all of our agencies who continue to collaborate, and who are used to working together for the greater good. Wheelchair Association launches Clare emergency response team

THE plight faced during the lock-down by those with physical disabilities has been highlighted by front line workers with the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) in Clare. The IWA has developed a mobile outreach services to respond to the needs of 55 members, many of who are cocooning due to the increased risk to their health posed by Covid-19. The organisation has also raised concerns about the funds needed to keep its services in place, as key fund-raising, including its networks of shops, has been suspended. An emergency response team continues to reach people with disabilities and provide advice, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and services including shopping and bill payment. Coordinator of the service, Catherine Earley said the lock-down was severely affecting people with physical disabilities. “This is a very worrying time for people who use our services and are dependent on our assistance to allow them to remain living safely in their own homes,” she explained. “Many of them are aware that due …

Three more Covid-19 cases in Clare

With three further positive cases, Clare now has a total of 212 confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, Clare still remains one of the counties with the lowest incidences of the virus at 1.1%. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre announced this evening that a further 18 people have died from Covid-19. There have now been a total of 1,102 related deaths in Ireland from the virus. As of 11am today, the HPSC has been notified of 386 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the overall tally of confirmed cases to 19,648 confirmed cases. The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread. Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Clare

A further 28 people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died in Ireland while the number of positive cases in Clare is on the increase, up by 22 to a total of 187. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre said the additional 28 deaths brings to 794 the number of laboratory confirmed Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland. As of 1pm this Thursday afternoon, the HPSC has been notified of 936 new confirmed cases. There is now a total of 17,607 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country. The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread. One new Covid-19 case in Clare

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has confirmed that a further 49 people diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died, bringing the number of deaths in the country to 769. One new case has been diagnosed in Clare. The total number of positive cases for the virus in the county now stands at 165. There were a total of 631 new confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 16,671 confirmed cases of the virus in Ireland. The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread. Clare’s Covid-19 cases now at 164

While over 16,000 people nationwide have tested positive for Covid-19, over half of those diagnosed with the virus have recovered while 856 people have been discharged from hospital settings. In Clare, the number of positive cases continues to increase and there are now 164 people in the county who have tested positive, up four from the previous tally announced on Sunday night. Forty four more deaths have been recorded bringing the total number of positive cases in Ireland to 16, 040. Of that tally, 8,377 patients have fully recovered from the virus. An additional 856 people have been discharged from hospital settings. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan said of the recovery rate doesn’t surprised them. “It is giving us a picture which is broadly similar to what our expectation has been,” he noted. U2 join Dómhnal in fight against Coronavirus

THE world’s top band U2, is among those to come on board to fund a cargo plane of personal protection equipment (PPE) being brought from China to Ireland by Ennis man Dómhnal Slattery. Avolon, the aircraft leasing company owned by Mr Slattery, landed flight MSN 396 with a full consignment PPE at Dublin Airport last week. The A330 aircraft contained 40 ventilators, 1.1m exam gloves, 250,000 surgical masks, 60,000 medical goggles and 20,000 medical face shields. “We are confident the medical supplies as sourced by the HSE, PCH and Avolon are of the highest quality available and contain the CE marking,” said Mr Slattery. The well-known businessman gave a commitment to do even more in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. It has emerged that Bono, the Edge, Adam and Larry are among the individuals involved with Avolon on this project. U2 have committed €10m to the project and they have purchased the PPE that Avolon will fly from China …

41 more deaths from Covid-19

Forty one more people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 406. Of the latest deaths, 36 were located in the east, four in the west and one in the south of the country The people included 16 females and 25 males and 31 were reported as having underlying health conditions. The median age of today’s reported deaths is 85. The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Clare increased yet again and an additional eight cases now brings the total confirmed cases in the county to 106. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre reported that as of 1pm today, an additional 548 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 were reported by Irish laboratories and an additional 284 confirmed cases reported by a laboratory in Germany.
