Permission denied for telecommunications mast on Loop Head

PLANNING permission has been refused for a 30-metre high telecommunications structure on Loop Head due to visual impact. An application had been made by Vantage Towers Ltd for the mast with antannae, dishes and associated telecommunications equipment at Moyarta East, Carrigaholt. The proposed site is 260 metres west of the R468 regional road and 1.56km from the R487 regional road, which is a designated scenic route to the north west. The mast was to be sited in a locally elevated position in a relatively low landscape and views would be available towards the site from the south and south west on the local road network. This last point especially mitigated against the granting of planning permission as the planner’s report stated, “Having regard to the locally elevated nature of the site, the open nature of the receiving landscape and the height of the structure as proposed, views would be available towards the tower from multiple vantage points to the north, …

New car park proposed for former Ennis Boys NS site

A MOVE is being made to transform the site of the former Ennis Boys National School on the Kilrush Road in Ennis into a new car park, the Clare Champion can reveal. City Cinemas Ltd are set to apply to Clare County Council for planning permission to develop a new temporary surface car park with 156 spaces in the county capital. The planning application will seek a five year permission for the development which will also include 12 accessible bays and four electric vehicle parking bays. The town centre site has been vacant since 2013 when Ennis National School moved to its new school in Ashline. The Kilrush Road site is zoned as mixed use and has been identified as one of a number of Opportunity Sites in the current County Development Plan. Plans lodged for €65m, 289-home development in Clare

Plans have been lodged with An Bord Pleanála for the single largest ever private housing scheme for Ennis. Availing of the Government’s ‘fast track’ planning system for large housing developments, one of the country’s largest house building firms, Glenveagh Homes has lodged plans for the €65-million 289-home scheme direct to An Bord Pleanala. The Strategic Housing Development (SHD) scheme is made up of 125 three-bed townhouses, 74 3/4-bed semi-detached homes, 66 two-bed townhouses, 12 two-bed duplex and 12 one-bed maisonettes. The scheme – which comes with 488 car-parking spaces – will also provide a 60 place creche. The site with an address at Ballymacaula, Drumbiggle, Keelty, Circular Road fronts into the Ennis bypass link road between the roundabout near Ennis Golf Club and the roundabout on the N85 Lahinch Road. Permission sought for 60 homes in east Clare town

PROPOSALS for another major private housing development in Tulla are being considered by Clare County Council. After an original application was invalidated, Wiskin Property Developments lodged a fresh application last week to build 60 homes at Loughaun South. The company is seeking permission for 15 detached houses; 36 semi-detached houses and nine terraced houses. Two vehicular entrances were also to be provided at the site, which is just over 3 hectares. According to the planning application form, 40 of the proposed homes will be three-bed. Six will be two-bed units and 14 will have four bedrooms. Parking would be provided by the creation of 140 spaces at the development. A letter submitted with the application outlines that the Part V element of the project has been agreed, in principle, with Clare County Council. Ballyvaughan Fanore Walking Club is seeking planning permission for a new-single storey clubhouse and community recreation facility at New Pier Road, Ballyvaughan. A document accompanying the application outlines that the proposed clubhouse is envisoned as a gathering place for the club as well as a recreational space for the local community. The site is owned by the club and is located on the New Pier Road in Ballyvaughan Village. Regarding the design, the document says, “The clubhouse is designed as a sympathetic, timber frame that sits on a limestone plinth. The height and proportion of the building are in keeping with the scale of the surrounding dwellings.
