The excitement of aviation will be captured through the eyes and creative hands of hundreds of children from Shannon Airport’s catchment area, as it hosts its first schools art competition.

School children across three categories will be committing to canvas the image the airport conjures up for them.
In all, 680 primary schools across the region have been invited to participate in the competition, the theme of which is ‘What the airport means to me’.
Schoolchildren can win their school a first prize of a €400 voucher for art supplies, as well as a €100 voucher for themselves.
The winning piece will also be framed and displayed at Shannon Airport for an entire year, with up to 200 shortlisted entries also forming part of a month-long exhibition.
The three categories in the competition are junior and senior infants; first to third class and fourth to sixth class. The closing date for entries is April 27.
The winners and shortlisted entries will be announced on May 11, with the art exhibition taking place in June.
