Street performers to head for Carrigaholt

Street entertainers who are feeling a recessionary pinch might prick their ears when they hear that €300 of prize money will be dispensed in Carrigaholt on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The village is hosting a street festival that will incorporate prizes for the best street performers and graffiti artists. Judging will be carried out during the festival and the winners will be announced from 6 to 9pm on Sunday, May 1.
Stalls will also be available to artists interested in selling or displaying their work. The weekend will also include an oyster festival and raft racing.
After 15 years of running the annual oyster festival, the committee felt a need to refresh the festival. After coming up with events including a shell craft competition on the strand using oyster shells, a children’s puppet theatre in the marquee, face painting, balloon modelling, raft races and karoke competitions, the committee hit upon the idea of street performing, which will be central to the May Bank Holiday festival.
