Still no movement on Blake’s Corner

FUNDING will only be made available for work on Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon this year, if other counties fail to use their National Roads Authority allocations it has emerged.
Clare’s senior engineer sent word to a recent meeting of North Clare Area councillors that the county council does not have the money to carry out works on the corner.
Councillors expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation. “This is not worth a comment,” said Councillor Bill Slattery.
Public representatives in the area have continually expressed concerns about public safety at the busy junction, while the Save Ennistymon’s Heritage group has called for the Blake’s and Linnane’s buildings to be preserved.
The council is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement for its plans for the corner, which as yet remain unclear. A report was completed on the future of the junction but councillors voted not to see this until a full application for work at the location is ready.
