Spancilhill trainer Glynn hopeful with Becauseicouldntsee

Spancilhill-based trainer Noel Glynn, whose Becauseicouldntsee is 12-1 joint favourite with Paddy Power for the €190,000 Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown on St Stephen’s Day, has left the seven-year-old, together with stable companion Gonebeyondrecall, among the 61 horses going forward for the feature race at the latest forfeits stage.

Becauseicouldntsee found Poker De Sivola just too powerful in this year’s National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and was fourth on his seasonal debut in a hurdle at Thurles last month.
Glynn, who has close on 20 horses in training at his impressive Durra House facility, is debating which road to go with Becauseicouldntsee, as he is entered in the Paddy Power Chase and the Welsh National.
However, he was well pleased with Becauseicouldntsee’s lastest showing in Thurles.
“I was very happy as he hadn’t been out since March and badly needed the run. Everything has gone right from that day and he has not been held up. He’s worked every day and not missed anything.
“He doesn’t have to have good ground – he goes on any ground.
“As far as the trip goes, I’d rather that it was three and a half miles but it’s a big pot and I wouldn’t be afraid of the distance.
“He had the speed to win a bumper and he stayed well over four miles – so there is no reason why the three miles is not fine.
“I see that Paddy Power has him as favourite with Jack The Bus and the last time that we met him, my fellow beat him in a Fairyhouse novice chase by over 30 lengths,” Glynn recalled.
The two most notable absentees after the forfeits are Paddy’s former 20-1 chances Bob Lingo and Doctor Pat.
The former, trained by Tom Mullins, could go for the following day’s Grade 1 Fort Leney Novice Chase, while Doctor Pat, who is tutored by Jonjo O’Neill in England, may head for Cheltenham.
There is a further forfeits stage for the Paddy Power Chase as well as the €100,000 Grade 1 Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase and the €80,000 Grade 1 paddypowerpoker.com Future Champions Novice Hurdle on Monday and a supplementary entry stage at a cost of €10,000 and €8,000 respectively for the last two named races on the same day.
