Semi-final pairings have been decided in the PK Coaches senior camogie championship. Newmarket have topped group 2 after their victory over Sixmilebridge at the weekend. The ’Bridge are also through to the semis as they had already secured their passage entering the weekend game. They are now second in the group and will face group 1 winners Kilmaley. Newmarket will play Clooney-Quin in the other semi-final.
Clooney-Quin had it all to do last Wednesday evening against Scariff-Ogonnelloe in a game that went down to the wire. Both were battling for a semi-final place and a tough exciting game ensued. Clooney-Quin emerged with a point to spare in a tie where the lead changed hands on many occasions.
Kilmaley had an easy win over Kilkishen who have yet to scale the heights that saw them push Clooney-Quin all the way to a draw in round 1. The newcomers to senior will now compete in the Glenomra Shield as fourth placed team in their group, with Scariff-Ogonelloe finishing in third place thanks to their win over Kilkishen. Tulla/Bodyke recorded a deserved win over Wolfe Tones and finished third in their group with the Shannon side in fourth place.
Pairings for the Glenomra Shield as follows Scariff-Ogonnelloe will play Wolfe Tones while Kilkishen were due to play Tulla-Bodyke. However the amalgamation have revealed that they will not field in the fixture which means that Kilkishen are through to the final. September board meeting
At the September board meeting on Monday, an objection was heard from St Joseph’s Camogie Club into the format used for the play off for the intermediate shield.
Three teams were level on points for two places. Inagh were pulled from the three and placed in the first semi-final spot with St. Josephs and Broadford due to play-off for the second spot. Neither St Joseph’s or Broadford turned up for their game and lodged an objection against the format used.
The objection succeeded and a new format was decided on, Broadford and Inagh are to play with the winner in the semi-final and the losers play St Joseph’s for the remaining semi-final place. Dates are yet to be found for these two rounds of play-offs and then semi-finals and final.
Intermediate champions, Corofin, will represent the county in the Munster Club Junior Championship.
