GOVERNMENT agencies and local authorities along the west coast should officially support the campaign to make the Cliffs of Moher one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
That’s according to Senator Martin Conway, who warned the other world-famous visitor attractions are effectively being supported by their respective governments.
Considering the Cliffs of Moher is the only Irish entrant, Senator Conway claimed there is no reason why Government-funded authorities couldn’t include a line in official correspondence endorsing the campaign for the Cliffs’ inclusion.
He said the Polish entrant is being very well supported by all the relevant authorities in the country, making a big difference to its campaign.
“Everything possible that can be done should be done by the Government to help the Cliffs become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Winning this competition would provide a huge boost for tourism in Clare and to counties along the western seaboard.
“Government could very easily endorse this campaign by including its message of support in all of its emails, letters and information notices on websites,” he said.
He made the plea following a renewed call for people in the Mid-West to support the Cliffs of Moher’s bid by texting MOHER to 53131.
There is only six months left until the competition closes and the New 7 Wonders of Nature announced. Anyone who sends a text message will receive a reply message thanking them for voting for the Cliffs.
