Secret agenda for portaloo theft?

Thieves who stole a portaloo from a site secured by a six foot locked gate in O’Briensbridge may have had something other than relieving themselves in mind when they took the mobile toilet.

A senior garda in Killaloe has described how the pumping system that removes matter from the portaloos has another use that criminals could find useful.
“These pumps, would you believe, are very useful as a device for siphoning off diesel and we believe that it is quite possible that this is the significance behind this theft,” the garda said.
A single portaloo was removed sometime between 10am on Wednesday, October 23, and 4pm on Thursday, October 24, at a secured site in Ardnataggle, O’Briensbridge.
Gardaí believe it was “lifted over a six foot locked gate” and that a lorry or some other large vehicle would have been needed to assist in its removal and transportation.
The garda source explained that despite a spate of thefts of diesel and home heating oil across the county, the Killaloe district had remained relatively free of this type of crime and described the theft as “unusual in that regard”.
“Why else would you want a portaloo, unless you were having a BBQ or something? We believe that it is quite possible that the portaloo was taken for the pump.”
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in this area or who may have located the missing portaloo is urged to make contact with Killaloe Garda Station on 061 620540.
