Second Glór date for Kilfenora Céilí Band

ONE of North Clare’s most famous musical groups received a strong endorsement this week as phenomenal demand for concert tickets resulted in the announcement of a second gig in Glór.

The Kilfenora Céilí Band this year held their centenary celebrations and, in a short statement, John Lynch said, “We were aware of the demand for an Ennis concert following the success of the one in May.
“We thought that this new production being presented on January 8 in Glór would be that but we’re delighted to say that as that date has sold out, we can now confirm that we’re also playing there on the following night, Saturday, January 9.
“The past year has been such a special event for the band, with massive television, radio and print exposure at home and across the world. The band has been honoured across the country and in various parts of the world for their contribution to Irish music,” he recalled.
This contribution was further highlighted when the Clare Association in Dublin recently announced that John, who is the band leader, has been voted Clareman of the Year.
John continued, “The success of their album earlier in the year exceeded all expectations and the amount of goodwill generated by the band as they travelled at home and abroad has made 2009, the band’s centenary year, one to be remembered for the band members and their audiences.”
The announcement of the second concert on January 9 will be very welcome for the many people on the waiting list for tickets.
John concluded, “The fact that this is a new production and the Christmas rush, have certainly played a major part in the concert selling out so quickly.
“We’re thrilled and indeed humbled that so many people have made such an effort to come and hear us play. We were all geared up for a mighty night and now it looks like it’ll be two mighty nights.”
Tickets for the second date are on sale through Glor box office at 065 6843103.
