Second cattle rustling case

A second case of cattle rustling has taken place in Clare in under a month as three Friesian heifer calves were snatched from an outhouse in West Clare last week.
The Friesian calves were stolen between 9pm on Wednesday, February 15 and around 7am on Thursday February 16 from an outhouse in Ballykett, Kilrush.
The calves had not yet been tagged as they were only three-weeks-old.
A previous incident occurred in East Clare in the last week of January where 15 animals were stolen from a farm in Ballyquin and gardaí are appealing to the public to report suspicious vehicles immediately to help apprehend the culprits. Superintendent Gerard Wall of the Kilrush garda district said, “There have been two incidents of it and in one instance the culprits were aware that the cattle weren’t tagged, they were new.
“This would suggest that the perpetrators had prior knowledge.
“These calves can be transported in anything, not necessarily a trailer, they could go into a van.” He advised the public to “be alert for suspicious vehicles and report them promptly so that we can intervene and catch these people.
“I would also urge members of the community alert and community watch groups to report to the gardaí any information they may received in this”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilrush gardaí on 065 9080550 or call the garda confidential line on 01 800 666111.
