Cannabis haul in East Clare

Members of the Clare Garda Divisional Drugs Unit have seized €24,000 worth of cannabis herb and €1,600 worth of cannabis plants following two searches in East Clare at the weekend.
The haul was made after gardaí intercepted a vehicle at Woodpark, Mountshannon, last Saturday at approximately 7pm.
Two males were in the car at the time and following a search of the vehicle, two packages believed to containing two kilos of cannabis herb were located.
The drugs have been sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
Gardaí believe the drugs have an estimated street value of €24,000. As a result of the seizure, a second search was carried out at a house in the Scariff area, where gardaí recovered four mature cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €1,600.
“It is believed these drugs were destined for the local market and potentially the Ennis market,” a senior garda stated.
The two males in the car are aged in their 20s and 30s and were arrested and detained at Killaloe Garda Station over the weekend under drug-trafficking legislation.
Both men are understood to be locals and were released on Sunday afternoon. A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the matter.
“The search and seizure was carried out by members of the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by gardaí from the Killaloe Garda District and formed part of the unit’s ongoing operation into the sale and supply of drugs in County Clare,” the senior garda explained.
