Sean Hehir wins Adare 10k title

The Adare 10km road race, organised by West Limerick Athletic Club, was held in ideal weather conditions, with almost 600 athletes going to the starting line.
There were outstanding performances from a number of Clare athletes. Sean Hehir, (O’Callaghan’s Mills), running with Rathfarnham AC, Dublin, took this field apart right from the start along with Paddy Hamilton (Annadale Striders, Belfast) with Hehir winning on a sprint finish for the second year in a row with a time of 30.39. He was just four seconds off Seamus Powers course record. Paddy Hamilton was second in  30.42 and Michael Shannon Kilnaboy was third in 31.48 followed home by Julio Cesar F Castro (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare, sixth), Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare, eighth), Thomas Garrahy (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare, 25th) and Tom Mackey (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare, 39th).(Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) finished second in the team awards, with victory going to the host club, West Limerick.
In the masters’ men O-55, Eugene Moynihan (Marian) won the title in 35.40 with Tom Mackey (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) third in 39.04. Tommy Madden (Marian) recorded a great victory in the masters’ men’s O-60 with a very good time of 40.17.
The senior ladies’ race attracted well-known runners and the big surprise here came when Barbara Cleary (Miltown Malbay) captured the title in 36.42, well ahead of last year’s runner-up, Tracy Roche (Dooneen) (38.50) with Dympna Ryan (Dundrum) (39.03) in third place.
In the masters’ O-50 ladies, there was a second-place finish for Cushla Murphy Hehir (Marian).
