Scoil Mhuire take place in All-Ireland semi-finals

Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon travelled to Presentation Secondary School in Thurles last week to take part in the all-Ireland second year C basketball play-offs.

Scoil Mhuire’s first game was against Kings Hospital from Dublin. The North Clare girls easily accounted for the Dublin side, beating them 39 points to 19. Scoil Mhuire’s scorers were Laura O’ Loughlin (4), Aoife Hegarty (4), Sarah Clair (6), Ailing O’Connell (2), Sinéad Considine (13), Sarah Leigh (6), Lisa Sexton (2) and Sharon Roche (2).
Scoil Mhuire’s second game was against St Mary’s, Macroom. This was a closely contested affair and there was only one basket separating the sides as they headed into the final quarter of the game. The Ennistymon girls eventually ran out winners on a 34 to 28 point score. Scorers in this game were Aoife Hegarty (4), Denise Kelleher (2), Sarah Clair (4), Laura O’Loughlin (2), Sharon Roche (2), Sarah Leigh (10), Sinéad Considine (8) and Aisling O’Connell (2).
In their final game of the play-offs they took on Gael Cholaiste from Carlow. Despite playing two games before this, Scoil Mhuire easily accounted for the Carlow opposition and ran out winners on a 35 to 18 points score line. Scorers in this game were Aisling O’Connell (6), Aoife Hegarty (3), Laura O’Loughlin (3), Sinéad Considine (11) and Sarah Leigh (12).
Scoil Mhuire will now play Mohill Community School from Leitrim in the All-Ireland semi-final. The other semi-final will take place between Portmarnock CS (Dublin) and Scoil Mhuire from Cork. The winners of both semi-finals will play in the all-Ireland league final, which takes place in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on May 11.
