Scariff keep the pressure on in third-division tie at Craven’s Field

Scariff   22    Douglas   7
SCARIFF were victorious on Sunday over a physical Douglas side in Craven’s Field in the third-division league.

The home side were 3-0 up at the break with a James Kelly penalty, after what was an uneventful first half.
From the kick-off in the second, Scariff went on the attack. They put the Douglas defence under sustained pressure, which paid off with a try from James Kelly under the posts. He converted to leave the score 10-0. Scariff kept the foot on the pedal and scored a further two tries through Darren McNamara and Steven Madden.
Douglas got in for a consolation try at the end to leave the score 22-7 at the whistle.
Scariff should have come away with the bonus try, only for some sloppy passing. However, it is another victory for them which keeps them strongly positioned to secure second place behind Presentation.

St Senan’s went behind to a penalty in the opening minutes and shortly after this, they conceded a try which was converted leaving them 0-10 in arrears.
Before half-time, the Shannon side scored when Jake Egan converted a penalty.
Early in the second half, the Clare side was dealt another blow when Clonmel struck for their second try.
The visitors fought back with a try from Aaron Skerritt but the conversion attempt from Jake Egan was just wide of the posts.
As the game moved towards the full-time whistle, St Senan’s tried hard to further reduce the deficit.
When they were awarded a penalty in a scoreable position, they opted to kick to the corner in the hope of getting a try. However, they were penalised and this resulted in possession going back to the home side who went forward and scored a try in the corner to seal victory.
