More Clare teams on the way to national finals

IT was another busy week on the community games front with the projects and talent competitions and chess championships decided.

Sixmilebridge National School was the venue for the projects competitions, co-ordinated by Mary McNamara.
Judges Claire Vaughan, Siobhan Moroney and Louise Reidy had a difficult task in choosing the winners who will go forward to the national finals at the end of May in Athlone
In the U-11 section, David, Paul and Samuel Hamilton, representing Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry, were the winners from Cratloe A (Aoife O’Brien, Jamie Costigan, Stephen Hoctor and Ava Cunningham) with Quin-Clooney A (Saoirse Boyce, Ellie Rochford, Caoimhe McAteer and Linnea Parker) sharing third spot with Cratloe B (Kevin Danagher, Ross Vanderdussen and Luke Healy). The fourth place certificates were won by Quin-Clooney B (Brianna Fennell and Rachel McEvoy)
Cratloe A were the U-13 winners and their team comprised Eric Collins, Mia Roberts, Siobhan Murphy and Chloe Mulcair. In second place were Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry (Sarah O’Connell and Aoibhe Frazer) followed by Cratloe B (Dylan Brennan, Sean Ryan and Naoise Quinn).
Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry (Aoife Hurley, Katie Freeman, Niamh O’Dea and Aoife Corbett) won the U-16 category.

Chess
Shannon won both chess titles when the finals were staged at St Flannan’s College. The event was co-ordinated by John Cassidy and he reported a high standard. Shannon will represent Clare in the Munster finals at the University of Limerick on Saturday, March 26.
The members of the winning U-16 team were: Yee Shing Man, Robbie Meaney, James Danaher, Ross O’Connor, Evan Quigley, David Hanley and Samuel Lenihan.
In second place were Quin-Clooney with Cian and Martin O’Mara, Emma Deegan, Donal O’Criodain, Alan Culligan and Barry Loughnane. Third place was filled by the Killimer/Knockerra team of Robert Walsh, Canerra Keane, Declan Moloney, Mairead Grogan, Kate Malone, Colm Pyne and Keelan Cunningham.
Ennis St John’s, were in fourth place with a team that included Mike O’Dea, Chris Meaney, Ross McInerney, David Monaghan and Amir.
At U-12 level, Shannon were also the winners with Adam Cole, Joseph Cesar, Jamie Nelson Cole, Ronan Singpurwala, Hazel Meaney, Mark Quigley and Jessica M Danaher.
Ennis St John’s were second with James Costelloe, Darren O’Brien, Manus Doherty, Ross O’Flaherty and Katie Shannon. In third spot were Quin/Clooney with Cian Wall, Adam Deegan, David Barbotin, Kevin Reynolds, Jack Duggan, Oisin McCaffrey and Cathal Lennon
They were followed by Tulla whose team included Ian Hughes, Darragh and Grace Daly, Sarah Lee Butler, Ronan Molloy and David Condon

Talent
The talent competitions were held last Saturday in Sixmilebridge GAA hall, co-ordinated by Mary Phelan and Rose Meakins with county youth officer Seanie Stack serving as MC for the day.
The judges were Anne Hayes, Clair Stack, Noel Murphy, Matthew Ring, Bridget Kielly, Stephanie Griffin, Shauna Kerin, Carmel Egan, Marion Ryan and Ger Stack.
There was an entry of 68 different acts and the winners in each will go forward to the national finals in May.

Upcoming events
Lees Road will be the venue on Saturday at noon for the U-10 and U-13 cross country relays.
The basketball (U-13 and U-16) finals will take place on Saturday and Sunday week, March 19 and 20, at St Flannan’s College at 10am each day.
The mixed distance relays will take place on Friday, March 25, at Cooraclare at 6pm. The quiz finals will be at St Flannan’s on Friday, April 1, at 7.30pm.
