CLARE GAA will, next week, unveil a new committee tasked with helping players find work. Conscious of the growing number of inter-county players that are out of work, board chairman Michael O’Neill signalled that he would be putting plans in place to help inter-county players in their search to find work.
“The GAA has always been pro-active in this area and the need is greater than ever now. Some of our players have had to emigrate in search of work,” the board chairman explained this week.
He confirmed that an employment support group of between three and five people, with expertise in the area, will be in place in the next week or two.
The announcement comes in a week when officials of senior football finalists, Kilmurry-Ibrickane and Kilkee expressed concern about unemployment within their panels and the possibility that some of their players will be forced to emigrate to the US or to Australia.
A big number of Clare clubs currently have players based outside the country and are faced with the expense of bringing these players home for games, almost on a weekly basis.
