AN application has been made for planning permission to facilitate the opening of a new restaurant at Ballycasey Crescent.
John Mullane has made the application to change an existing hair salon to a restaurant, which would incorporate a takeaway.
According to the application, the premises has an area of 78m2 and the change to a restaurant would mean that an additional three or four people would be employed there.
The application states it is estimated that 80 cars a day would come to the restaurant and at peak times there would be 15 an hour. The opening times specified in the application would be from 9am to 11pm six days a week and from 10am to 10.30pm on Sunday. These opening hours would be in line with the opening hours of the nearby Mace store.
While the application does make specific reference to a takeaway facility, it also stipulates that this would not be of the typical fast food variety. “The applicant wishes to stress that it is proposed that the facility would be predominantly a restaurant and that the takeaway element would only consist of takeaway dinners etc.”
It states that there would be no residential accomodation over the proposed restaurant. “The applicant wishes to confirm that there is residential accommodation over the Chinese restaurant/takeaway, a bakery and a butcher shop, which are adjacent to this property. However, this proposed development is a two-storey development and therefore it is proposed that there will be no residential accommodation over.”
The application claims residential parking won’t be impacted upon. “The applicant wishes to confirm that the car parking adjacent to his proposed development is solely used for associated parking with the commercial units, as the residential units over the adjacent commercial units are accessed from the rear and the associated car parking is adjacent to the entrances in an independent courtyard. Therefore, the car parking associated with the proposed development will not hinder the residential amenity in the area.”
The application was lodged with Clare County Council on August 17 and it is expected that a decision will be made by October 11.
Also in Shannon, UCB Manufacturing Ltd (formally Schwarz Pharma Ltd) has applied for permission to construct a new plant room building.
The application states the plant room is required to house the installation of a refrigeration system to replace two existing chillers, which were installed to cool the HTF system for its SP1 production building.
A decision on the application is due to be made by October 13.
