O’Donnell goal helps Flannan’s to victory

St Flannan’s  4-11   Blackwater Community School  1-16
Although St Flannan’s led by just four points at half time, having played with a very strong wind in their first Dr Harty Cup game of the 2010/2011 Munster hurling colleges season, they held on to record an excellent four point win.

The Ennis school led 1-8 to 0-7 at half time in Bansha on Wednesday afternoon but their Waterford opponents were level within the early minutes of second half. Alan O’Neill scored the St Flannan’s goal in the opening half and added a crucial second during the second period.
Ballyea’s Tony Kelly goaled for St Flannan’s from a penalty during the second half while Éire Óg’s Shane O’Donnell also found the net with a crucial goal for the Clare school.
In fact, O’Donnell’s contribution from the bench was hugely influential in helping St Flannan’s to victory. St Flannan’s displayed considerable resolve in the second half to withstand both Blackwater Community School and the inclement weather.
They will play the winners of the Thurles CBS v De La Salle, Waterford game in two weeks time.
The format of the Harty Cup this year means that the winners of the opening games in the four teams group play each other in their second game, while the respective losers also meet in game two.

Cunningham haul helps St Caimin’s to victory

Wolfe Tones forward Aaron Cunningham scored all three of St Caimin’s first half goals. However their Cork opponents fought valiantly on the resumption and eight minutes from full time, St Caimin’s advantage had been cut to just two points.
It was at that stage that substitute David Ryan scored the Shannon’s teams fourth goal to steady Clare school. The Cork school’s fifth goal was from the last puck of the game. Aaron Cunningham hit at total of 3-7 from play and frees. Shane Liddy scored 0-4, while Alan Mulready accounted for 0-3.
