‘No call vetting’ in fire service

CLARE’s chief fire officer has denied suggestions of ‘call vetting’ in response of emergency calls.

Speaking at this week’s meeting of Clare County Council, Adrian Kelly said while there had been media attention on the possibility of call vetting taking place, he insisted that “there is no call vetting here” saying that it “wouldn’t make sense”. He said if anyone has proof, “I’d like to get it because it shouldn’t be happening.”

He was speaking ahead of the council’s discussion of the new Keeping Communities Safe, directorate for fire and emergency management.

Concern about the document was raised by Councillor Johnny Flynn who said it had been “drafted in the spirit of the elimination of waste rather than improvement of the system. He called for the Environment Minister to carry out a risk assessment. Councillors voted to set up a sub-committee to examine the document.
