McCarthy’s hat-trick earns victory for Avenue

Avenue United A 3   Tulla United A 0

A HAT-TRICK from Dave McCarthy steered Avenue United A to victory over Tulla United in this premier-league tie on Sunday.

While the Ennis side were deserving winners, the final scoreline is a little flattering in their favour.
McCarthy’s first came after 15 minutes and he doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark. Fifteen minutes from the end, he struck for number three. Avenue’s  Colin Smith picked up a serious hand injury during the game.

Avenue United A: John Healy; David Herlihy, David Russell, Mattie Nugent, Eamonn O’Reilly; Colin Smith, David McCarthy, Alan Roche, Mickey Mahoney; Dara Kerin, Barry Nugent.
Subs: Mark Roche for Smith (inj), Dean D’Auria for O’Reilly; Scott Hennessy for Kerin.
Tulla United A: Dara Kelly; Shane Masson, Padraic O’Malley, Denis Murphy, Niall Whelan; Darragh Cory, Killian Bane, John Brigdale, Colin Nelson, Trevor Corbett, Sunny Jay.

Ennis Town Rock A 1   Rhine Rovers 0

ENNIS Town Rock kept up their challenge for honours when they overcame Rhine Rovers on Sunday.
Rhine had the better of the first-half exchanges but failed to breach the winners’ defence. Rock improved in the second half and took the lead through Gary Collins but there was an element of luck about the goal as his cross from out on the left deceived all and ended up in the net.
In the final minute, Rhine had an opportunity to level when they were awarded a penalty but Sean Kennedy in the Rock goal saved the day for his side.

Ennis Town Rock A:
Sean Kennedy; Gary Walsh, Ritchie Neylon, Joe Lynch, Shane Daniels, Michael Dinan, Jacko White, Gary Collins, Dean Gardiner, Joe Collins, Stephen Hickey.
Subs: Niall McNevin, Adrian Walsh.
Rhine Rovers: Aidan O’Connor, Enda Malone, Ed Manley, Gary Hogan, Kevin Johnson, Conor Hanrahan, Paul Johnson, Mark Hanrahan, Davy O’Brien, Christy O’Brien, Johnny O’Brien.
Subs: Hamid Mahmodi, Brendan Quin, Cathal O’Sullivan.

Hermitage A 0   Lifford A 1

ROBERTO Pinto scored the all-important goal after half an hour of this Ennis derby tie at the Fairgreen on Sunday. It was a superb strike and worthy of winning any game but, that said, the Tage will be disappointed with the outcome as they wasted some good chances, particularly in the opening period when they created better opportunities.
They had the ball in the net after 15 minutes when Ritchie O’Grady scored but Pa Gleeson ruled that there was an offside offence, Shane Talty, John Ferns and Eoghan Ryan came close to scoring during this spell of dominance.
In the second half, it was Lifford’s turn to pile on the pressure and Rachman Zequiri and Hamad Kuku both came close to extending the lead.
The Tage finished the game with 10 men after Ritchie O’Grady picked up a second yellow card.

Hermitage: David Phillips, Brendan Dobbins, John Maher, Tola Crowe, Rhys Phillips, Eoghan Ryan, Matthew Kearney, Paul Dullaghan, John Ferns, Ritchie O’Grady, Shane Talty.
Subs: Chris O’Riordan for Dobbins; David Moloney for Crowe; Ritchie Fitzgerald for Kearney.
Lifford A: Paudi Hickey, Fill O’Reilly, John Allen, TJ Ajisomo, Hamad Kuku, Tom Mullen, Lunga Ballman, Rachman Zequiri, Roberto Pinto, Darren O’Neill, Benny Ayadola.
Sub: Pat Darcy for Ayadola.
