Markham to remain independent

First time candidate independent Brian Markham has said he is ‘delighted’ with his expected first preference vote of more than 1,500.

“I was saying this morning that every number one that I get is an achievement. To convince someone to give me their number one vote is fantastic and I did that without a political structure behind me or the development network,” the 23 year old told The Clare Champion.

The young West Clare man has said he will continue to build his political career from here and will do so as an independent.

“The experience has been fabulous. It has been a great learning curve, and that has given me the hunger to move on from here,” the West-Clare man stated.

“Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages with Fine Gael or Fianna Fail but I couldn’t say what party I would lean towards. If I run again I will definitely go independent,” he added.
