Lahinch Seaworld granted zoo licence

LAHINCH Seaworld has been granted a zoo licence at the facility in the resort town.

It has also received funding to add a new activity centre, offering a multi-purpose facility for all ages. This will incorporate a climbing wall, badminton, children’s activity centre and fitness classes.

Earlier this year, it received a capital grant to help ensure the building will be more energy efficient. Lahinch Seaworld received a €50,000 energy efficiency grant in 2011 and €349,000 in 2012.

“This grant will help the facility move into the future and cut thousands of euro off our energy bills. This will help us deliver a more consistent and efficient facility for schools, members and the community,” Lahinch Seaworld manager Ian Taylor said.

“We have also been granted our zoo licence, which is great news for the aquarium. We can move forward with our corporate schools programme and develop the aquarium further,” he added.

“Lahinch Seaworld has been through some difficult times in the recent past but with our new award-winning restaurant, a more energy-efficient facility and new activities coming online, we will continue to develop for the needs of the community and beyond,” Mr Taylor added.
