Kilfenora to host the county fleadh

KILFENORA will hold the third county fleadh in-a-row next June.

At the October meeting of the Clare County Board of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann held in Cois na hAbhna recently, the honour of hosting Fleadh Cheoil an Chláir was awarded to the Kilfenora CCÉ branch.
Kilfenora native and cathaoirleach of Clare County Board CCÉ, John Morgan said there has been great support amongst the people of Kilfenora for hosting the fleadh again next year.
“We had a very memorable fleadh this year and hope to have an even better one next year. We have learnt a lot over the past two years and we will be building on the successes of the past fleadhanna to ensure that Fleadh 2011 will be bigger and better,” he commented.
The cathaoirleach added that the fleadh is an important event in North Clare and had a significant and welcome impact on the local economy. “Even the word ‘Kilfenora’ conjures up visions of the award-winning céilí band, which has charmed audiences all over the world for over a century,” he added.
The county fleadh will run from Thursday, June 16 until Monday, June 20 and will include competitions in music, singing, dancing and comhrá Gaeilge. But the fleadh is not just about competitions. There will be céilís on four nights and music sessions on the streets and in all the pubs during the weekend. Fleadh Cheoil an Chláir is organised on a voluntary basis by the members of Clare County Board CCÉ, Kilfenora CCÉ and the local community.
