A SENIOR Clare garda has commended the actions of a member of the force who heroically pulled a man from a river in the north of the county at the weekend.
Shortly after 8pm on Saturday evening, Garda Noel Pearse, stationed in Ennistymon, dived into the Inagh River and rescued a local man who had lost his footing and was in the water.
Garda Pearse was responding to a call on Saturday evening at about 8pm after a passerby reported that they had heard calls from help from the river.
“I would like to highly compliment the garda involved for his brave action on the day. The quick response resulted in the recovery of the man from the river uninjured. But for that quick response, there could have been serious consequences,” said Garda Superintendent Declan Mulcahy.
