Good win for Éire Óg

Éire Óg          3-8
Tulla              1-6

Spectators would be forgiven for thinking it was November and not June when these two sides faced each other in a repeat of the Junior League semi-final, on a bitterly cold Friday evening at the Éire Óg club grounds.

Claire McMahon, for the hosts, was first on the scoreboard with a point from play. Shaunagh O’Brien quickly followed with another. Rachel McNamara pointed for Tulla to narrow the gap. The Ennis girls hit a purple patch with points from Orla Devitt, Shaunagh O’Brien, Shauna Keane and two from McMahon.
This lead was brought back to the minimum when Tulla hit backwith a Sinéad McNamara goal and points from Aisling Hunt and Aisling McNamara.

Éire Óg attacked again and a brilliantly executed hand pass from Shauna Keane, who excelled for the home side, found its way to McMahon, who rattled the Tulla net with an unstoppable shot. A point from Shaunagh O’Brien just before the break gave the town side a five-point half-time advantage.

Éire Óg started the stronger in the second half, with two McMahon goals stretching their lead to 11 points. However, Tulla’s never-say-die attitude stood to them and they held Éire Óg scoreless for the rest of the half while two Rachel McNamara points and a pointed 45’ from Áine Dinan brought the defecit back to eight points.

Both sides are out again next Friday, with Éire Óg travelling to take on Éire Óg Nenagh and Tulla travelling the shorter distance to take on Ruan in round three of the North Munster League.
