Goals prove vital as Corofin retain U-16C Championship

Corofin won the U-16C hurling title for the third year in a row on Saturday in Cusack Park.

Their ability to score goals proved decisive on the day Corofin had a goal after five minutes from Eoin Clancy, who played at full-forward. A further goal from Damien O’Loughlin put Corofin 2-6 to 0-6 ahead at the interval.
Colm O hAiniféin kept Ruan-Banner in touch with some excellent points from placed balls. A goal from Eoin Davoren for the winners early in the second half was followed by a goal for Ruan-Banner from Liam O’Donavan. The amalgamation side was not helped when they lost their centre-back Stephen Lyons through injury midway through the second half. The decisive score came in the 25th minute when Fergus Killeen raced in to score a great goal.

The U-16C shield preceded the championship decider and here Bodyke had an impressive win over Doora-Barefield 2.
The winners were the better-balanced side and took control of the tie from an early stage. The goals, which were scored by Patrick Walsh, Liam Doyle and William Fitzgerald, proved decisive.
