A community group in Ennistymon has come out against the possible removal of two of the town’s most famous buildings.
The possibility of Clare County Council demolishing two premises, which it now owns, at one of the most recognised junctions in the county was raised at a recent meeting of the Ennistymon Electoral Area councillors.
Blake’s-Linnane’s Corner, so-called because of the two landmark buildings on the Lahinch Road, was described by one local councillor as one of the most dangerous corners in the county.
However, a spokesperson the Save Ennistymon’s Heritage group has said it plans to highlight the “amazing history of the buildings” and has organised a concert to alert people to the issue.
The concert will be held on Saturday, October 31, at Teach Cheoil, St Andrew’s, Church Street, Ennistymon. The group hopes to raise the issue of what it says is “the continuing danger to the heritage of Ennistymon, including the plan to demolish Blake’s-Linnane’s corner”.
According to the spokesperson, artists appearing on the night will include Davy Spillane, Sonny Condell, David Sanders, Felim O’Choileain, Michael Murphy, George Byrt and Seán Conway, among others.
