Food Safety Authority closes restaurant

A RESTAURANT in Shannon was among five businesses closed by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland during the month of August, it emerged this week.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) served five closure orders and one prohibition order on food businesses last month for breaches of food safety legislation.
Saffron Indian Cuisine, Unit B32B, Shannon Skycourt, was one of those issued with a closure order by environmental health officers in the HSE West region.
A business in Dublin, two in Roscommon and one in Cavan were also issued closure orders during August. The Food Safety Authority issued a prohibition order on a business in Dublin.
Enforcement orders issued by the FSAI came to national attention last month when it was announced that 13 closure orders were served during the month of July.
Commenting on the latest orders, Professor Alan Reilly, chief executive, FSAI, stated that it was encouraging to see the number of enforcement orders had halved month on month.
“We are pleased to be reporting a significant drop in the number of enforcement orders served on businesses during August. Our number one priority is the protection of consumer health and we would stress to all businesses the importance of maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness at all times.
“One of the simplest ways to ensure food is produced safely is to make certain basic hygiene standards are met and yet, this continues to be an issue for some food businesses. You can’t produce safe food in dirty kitchens. We would direct food businesses to visit our website, as it is a comprehensive source of information on every aspect of food safety, food hygiene management, food safety training and food legislation,” he said.
The closure order against the Shannon business will remain listed on the FSAI website for a period of three months from the date of when it is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue.
