Extra-time win for Manus over Lifford

IN the second round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday, there were wins for Manus Celtic, Bunratty-Cratloe and Newmarket Celtic, while Ennis Town Rock progressed to the next round when they received a walkover from CSKA Tralee.

MANUS Celtic made a great start in this tie against premier opposition and they went 2-0 up in the first quarter. Adam Healy opened their account when he converted a penalty and he struck again soon after.
Lifford fought back and Scott Hennessy opened their account early in the second quarter. They were level with 10 minutes remaining in the half when Julius found the net.
The teams were evenly matched in the second half, which failed to produce a goal leading to extra time. In the first period, John Molloy struck for the all-important score, which put the Clarecastle-based outfit into the next round.

SECOND-half goals from Diarmuid Nash from a corner and Shane Meehan proved decisive as Bunratty-Cratloe overcame Sporting Ennistymon in this FAI Junior Cup tie on Sunday.

Bridge United           2

NEWMARKET Celtic led from the start in this cup tie against their neighbours on Sunday. Kieran Devitt scored to give them a 1-0 interval lead and Colin Ryan doubled their advantage early in the second half. The other goal scorers for the winners were Daithi O’Connell and Darren Cullinan.
Bridge United’s replies came from Jonathon Downes and Kieran Quinlan on a day when they finished with nine after having two players, Dominick Murphy and Donald Devanney sent off. Murphy’s dismissal came before the break.
Newmarket Celtic:

Ruan United suffered a 0-3 defeat to Spa Road Celtic, Connolly Celtic lost, 0-1, to Newcastle West Rovers while Newcastle West were 5-2 winners over Coole FC in Gort.

U-17

IN the second round of the U-17 Cup, Clare sides Avenue United and Ennis Town Rock were both away to Limerick opposition and both returned with impressive victories.
Avenue had a 6-1 win over Cappamore, while Ennis Town Rock were 3-1 winners over Aishling-Annacotty.
Brian Corry (2) and Gary Roche gave Avenue a 3-0 interval lead. In the second half, Segun Junaid, Nicki Twumasai and Paddy O’Malley were on target for the Ennis side.
