Ennis house damaged in fire

EXTENSIVE damage was caused to a detached two-storey house in the Tobartaoscáin area of Ennis when a fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.

No-one was injured as a result of the blaze, which quickly spread from the garage to the roof of the house.
Although an initial call to the fire service stated there may be persons on the premises, the house was vacant at the time.

Senior assistant chief fire officer, Denis O’Connell said two breathing apparatus teams searched the property on arrival to discover that the house was unoccupied.

The alarm was raised by a neighbour at around 6am and Ennis Fire Brigade attended the incident with four appliances in all – two fire appliances, a water tanker and a hydraulic platform.

Fire crews eventually brought the blaze under control and spent almost four hours at the scene before the site could be safely handed over to Garda crime scene investigators to carry out an examination.

Forensic samples were taken and are currently being analysed to determine the cause of the blaze.
