Emphatic victory for table-toppers, Shannon Olympic A

Shannon Olympic A   6   Cratloe Forest   1
SHANNON Olympic maintained their lead at the top of the first division with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Cratloe Forest at Olympic Park on Sunday afternoon.

Played in glorious sunshine, Olympic got off to a great start and created several opportunities early in the game with the opening goal coming after 15 minutes when Donncadh Kelly calmly tapped home a Richie Hanley cross.
Olympic didn’t have to wait long for their second goal with Eamonn O’Neill unleashing an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box a minute later.
Donncadh Kelly scored his second goal of the day in the 18th minute heading home a Jay Regan corner.
In the 32nd minute, Cratloe’s keeper, Thomas O’Connell parried a shot from Jay Regan but front man, Karl Scott, was there to tap home the rebound, making it 4-0 to the home side.
Cratloe managed to find the net themselves in the 37th minute with a sweetly struck free kick from 25 yards by Damien Browne.
This goal gave the visitors some confidence and they produced the better football in the final minutes of the half but the teams went into the break with Olympic leading by 4-1.
Cratloe piled on the pressure at the start of the second half but their efforts were to no avail when on 55 minutes, Olympic’s Richie Hanley finished neatly to give Olympic their fifth goal and effectively end Cratloe’s hopes.
Cratloe had a number of chances to score after this and a John O’Callaghan chance went over the bar in the 60th minute and a free kick from Ally McMillan on 70 minutes was saved by Olympic’s keeper Gary McGettrick.
It was Olympic’s day and captain Jay Regan completed the rout in the 85th minute when he tapped home the final goal of the game.
