Easy win for table-toppers


Kilmurry-Ibrickane  2-17   Clondegad  0-6
A RAMPANT Kilmurry Ibrickane scored a 17-point win over Clondegad in Ballynacally last Sunday. The win leaves Kilmurry joint top of the Cusack Cup table with Doora-Barefield, whom they drew with in their opening game.

Since then, Kilmurry beat Doonbeg and have now added Clondegad to that list.
A first-half goal from Enda Coughlan, who lined out at full-forward, helped Kilmurry into a 1-10 to 0-4 lead. Before that, he had pointed from the penalty spot.
A feature of the second half was a sublime goal from Shane Hickey, who had been moved to the half-forward line. Hickey lobbed Clondegad goalkeeper, Declan O’Loughlin after a slick Kilmurry move.
Mark McCarthy played well at centre-forward, as did Seamus Lynch on the wing.
Podge McMahon scored three points for Clondegad, while Eoin Griffin, Kenneth Kelly and Eoin Donnellan also scored points.
Kilmurry Ibrickane play Kilrush this weekend, while Clondegad, who are still just a point off the top of the table, play Doonbeg in Ballynacally.

St Joseph’s, Doora-Barefield   3-9    Liscannor   2-9

ST Joseph’s Doora-Barefield picked up their second win of the 2011 Cusack Cup campaign in Gurteen last Sunday. Having already beaten Shannon Gaels and drawn with Kilmurry Ibrickane, St Joseph’s now sit joint top of the table on five points, along with Kilmurry Ibrickane.
Goals from Aidan O’Connor, Cathal Duggan and Davy O’Brien helped the winners into a 3-4 to 1-5 half-time lead. Declan Fawl scored the Liscannor goal.
Playing with the aid of the breeze in the second half, St Joseph’s stayed ahead, although Liscannor fought manfully. Alan Clohessy netted a late penalty to reduce the deficit to two points at that stage but the home club held on to record another win.

LEADING 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, Doonbeg took over in the closing quarter to record their second win of the Cusack Cup campaign. Shane Ryan and David Tubridy (one free) scored two points apiece in the first half, while Brian Dillon, David Downes and Eamon Tubridy also found the target.
Tubridy added five first-half points, three from frees, while Shane Ryan scored the game’s only goal late in the game. Colm Dillon and Brian Egan completed Doonbeg’s tally.
Peadar McMahon scored three points for Kilrush, while Ruairí O’Connor, who looked dangerous when close to goal, kicked two points. Padjoe McGrath, John Hayes, Donal O’Sullivan and Ger O’Brien notched a point each for Kilrush.

Shannon Gaels   6-4   St Joseph’s, Miltown   2-2

SHANNON Gaels picked up their first points of the Cusack Cup campaign when they scored a three-point win over Miltown in Labasheeda last Sunday evening.
The teams were tied at 0-4 each at half-time. However, Miltown, who are still looking for a new manager after the resignation of Michael Neylon, will rue the fact that they kicked at least 10 first-half wides, while they also hit the crossbar close to the end of the first half.
Michael Coughlan, John Paul O’Neill (2) and Brian Cunningham scored for the Gaels in the opening half, while Dessie Molohan and Gary Egan replied for Miltown.
The Gaels outscored Miltown by 0-4 to 0-1 in the second half, with Cunningham and Coughlan scoring.
Seán Reynolds, Tomás Madigan, Michael Coughlan and Brian Cunningham played well for the winners, while Graham Kelly and Enda Malone were best for Miltown.
