Dromid too strong for Meelick

Dromid Pearses 2-12
Meelick 0-9

Kerry junior football champions, Dromid Pearses justified favouritism when they defeated their Clare counterparts Meelick in the Munster quarter-final at Meelick on Sunday.

The winners were better balanced and showed the greater teamwork. They had early points from Sean Curran and Niall O’Shea before Meelick captain Kevin Hartnett opened the home side’s account.
The visitors looked to be pulling away, helped by a powerful goal midway through the half from full-forward O’Shea, but the Clare champions put in a strong finish and trailed by just a goal at half time, 1-6 to 0-6. Hartnett and Patrick Finnucane kicked some good points for the Clare club.
Former Kerry All-Ireland winning captain Declan O’Sullivan was in excellent form throughout and he sparkled after the break
A goal from the penalty spot by Tomás Curran sealed the win for Dromid Pearses, who will play the Cork champions in the semi-final this Sunday. The Cork final takes place on Friday night between Kanturk and Mitchelstown; the winners to travel to Caherciveen.
Incidentally, both sides finished Sunday’s contest with 14 men after William O’Shaughnessy (Meelick) and Aidan O’Connor from the Kerry club were dismissed on second yellow cards.
Meelick will also be in action on Sunday as they take on Coolmeen in the replay of the Division 3 League final.
