Doonbeg Drama Festival waiting in the wings


The 49th Doonbeg Drama Festival will run in the village hall from Saturday, March 6, until Monday, March 15. The adjudicator will be Geoffrey O’Keeffe, while the late playwright Bryan McMahon’s son, Owen, will perform the official opening.
The festival will feature 10 plays, four in the confined section and six in the open category.
Five Clare groups will take to the stage. Amphitheatre Kilkee will be on stage on opening night with John B Keane’s Sive. The Corofin Dramatic Society will tread the boards on Tuesday evening, March 9, with Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Hanley.
The Sliabh Aughty Drama Group will present Charlie O’Neill’s Rosie and Star Wars the following night, while Ennis Players stage The Playboy of the Western World on Thursday, March 11.
The home group, Doonbeg have a long wait as they are not due to perform Big Maggie by John B Keane, until Monday March 15. The remaining groups travel from Cork, Tipperary, Waterford and Galway.
