STORYTELLER, playwright, actor and musician Little John Nee is bringing his play The Derry Boat to Glór for one night only in February.
The play, which is written and performed by Nee and directed by Pádraig Breathnach, tells the funny but poignant story of the four generations of migration between Ireland and Scotland. It celebrates the strong links that have existed between Donegal and Scotland through the years.
Nee was born in Glasgow but returned to his parents home in Letterkenny, County Donegal, at the age of 12. He currently lives in Tuam. He was given his stage name by his father, who was a Little Richard fan.
He founded the first punk band in County Donegal in 1976, which was known as Joe Petrol and the Petrol Bombs. He also spent some time as a labourer on the building sites in London. He later moved to Dublin and began imitating Charlie Chaplin on Grafton Street.
Over the years, he has made appearances in many films such as Neil Jordan’s High Spirits and he played the Toupee man in An Everlasting Piece. He was nominated for the Helen Hayes Award for his performance in The Derry Boat. Nee also played the part of Postie in TG4 silent comedy Fear an Phoist. He has also appeared at Electric Picnic, the Galway Arts Festival and the Earagail Arts Festival.
The Derry Boat will be staged in Glór on Wednesday, February 9 at 8pm. For tickets, visit www.glor.ie or contact 065 6843103.
