The Premier League title rests between Newmarket Celtic A and Avenue United A, with Newmarket currently leading the way. Avenue has a number of games in hand, which they must win if they are to prevent Celtic from capturing the title.
The sides meet at Lees Road this Sunday morning at 11am and the outcome may well decide where the title will rest. Avenue, provided they picked up full points against Bridge United A last evening (Wednesday), must win to keep the title race alive and this should ensure a lively affair between the two best sides in the league.
In meetings already this season, the Ennis side has had the upperhand but Newmarket know that if they can avoid defeat on Sunday, the title is theirs and this should ensure an all-out effort from their outfit.
Bunratty have already been relegated from this division and will play in the first division next season. On Wednesday next they have a chance to move a step closer to some silverware for the season when they entertain Rock Rovers in the Clare area semi-final in the FAI Junior Cup.
Shannon Olympic A remain favourites to win the first division title but they are being chased by Mountshannon Celtic, Corofin Harps and Burren United. Sporting Ennistymon have been relegated from this division.
Rhine Rovers have moved into the lead in the second division and are now the favourites to win the title. Manus Celtic A and Kilrush Rangers are still in contention.
Meanwhile, two of the sides challenging Coole FC for the third division title will clash on Sunday morning. Manus Celtic B and West Clare United meet at Tiermaclane, with victory critical for both if they are to overtake the Gort side in the run for this title.
Leaders Coole are free from action this weekend but are likely to be keeping an eye on this one as the league nears a conclusion. The youths league title rests between Bridge United and Avenue, with the former leading by a point at this stage. Both will be expected to win on Monday evening when they play Sporting Burren and Lifford respectively.
Last week, Avenue scored an 8-0 victory over Lifford, with goals from Sean Corry (3), Eoin Fitzgerald (2), Emyra Zakiri, Alan Roche and Colin Smith.
