Consultation phase for new road traffic plan

Plans to introduce a traffic management system for the town of Scariff are expected to go to the consultation phase in the coming weeks arising from a number of public meetings held in the area in the past month.
The issue of resolving the implementation of a traffic management plan for Scariff was raised recently at a Killaloe Electoral Area meeting, where Councillor Pat Burke called on Clare County Council, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána and the business community in Scariff, to try to bring the issue to a satisfactory resolution.
The Killaloe area councillors were told by senior executive engineer, Sean Lenihan that work is ongoing with a view to resolving matters.
“Meetings have taken place among the interested parties, where the various ideas and suggestions have been discussed and debated and we would be hopeful of a satisfactory outcome to this longstanding issue in the not too distant future,” he said.
He explained that as a requirement under the Road Traffic Act, the matter needed to allow for a period of public notice or consultation so the general public are given an opportunity to make a submission on what is proposed and he indicated that a public notice will issue in the coming weeks in this regard.
Councillor Burke said he was happy that the matter was going to public consultation and was moving forward and he said he “hoped that the people of Scariff row in behind this as he will help alleviate issues in the town”.
Councillor Joe Cooney supported his colleague and said that after holding two public meetings in three weeks on the issue he was glad to see the matter moving forward.
Meanwhile, Councillor Hayes was also pleased that it would go to public consultation.
