Coláiste Muire, Ennis hold off Scariff Community College to take camogie title

County Senior A Post-Primary Schools Camogie Championship Final
Coláiste Muire 2-14 Scariff Community College 1-9

Coláiste Muire completed another memorable season when holding off chief rivals Scariff Community College for the second successive year to capture the marquee post-primary schools honours in Fr. McNamara Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Leading from start to finish, crucial goals at either end of the tie bookended a dominant display led by scorers-in-chief Aisling Costelloe, Evie Scanlon and Elisha Rynne along with Aisling Moroney and Cliodha Queally.
Scariff Community College meanwhile never reached the heights of previous performances or perhaps weren’t let by an Ennis side that got off to an ideal start with 1-4 without reply.
Clarecastle pair Evie Scanlon (3) and Lauren Cusack began the early surge that was bolstered by an eleventh-minute solo goal through Aisling Costelloe who cut in from the right before rattling the net.
Scariff finally got off the mark with an Eimear Rodgers ’45 a minute later but that six-point gap would remain until the break after points from the excellent Costelloe (2) and Scanlon were matched by Rodgers, Dannielle Beston and substitute Rachel Danaher at 1-7 to 0-4.
Crucially Colaiste Muire were always able to up the ante when required as an opening Eimear Rodgers free was swallowed up by points for Evie Scanlon (2), Elisha Rynne (2) and Costelloe to soar 1-12 to 0-5 clear. And even when the East Clare side did rally with a goal through Caoimhe McNulty entering the final quarter, within two minutes it was cancelled out by a Rynne goal at the other end as Coláiste Muire completed a County Senior and Junior A double over Scariff Community College.

St Anne’s, Killaloe

County Senior B Post-Primary Schools Camogie Championship Final
St Anne’s Community College Killaloe 3-18 Rice College Ennis 4-10

A seven-goal, 80-minute thriller provided a fitting end to the senior decider fare in Fr. McNamara Park on Tuesday afternoon when St Anne’s Killaloe finally edged the B honours after extra-time.
In a compellingly evenly-matched final, neither side deserved to lose but St Anne’s greater stamina eventually shone through to outscore their flagging opponents by 1-6 to 0-4 in the additional periods.
Captain Abby Walsh’s experience was pivotal to St Anne’s success as were the scoring contributions of Amy McCarthy (1-2), Karen O’Mahony (1-1), Lucy Pearl (0-3), Siobhan McNamara (0-3) and clinching goalscorer Zoe Loughran.
So while Rice College clearly had the best player on show in the outstanding Caoimhe Cahill who finished with 2-5, ably assisted by injury-hampered Aoife Anderson and centre-back colossus Sophie Torpey, St Anne’s better balance up front was incrementally difficult to contain.

St Anne’s Killaloe: Anna Hanly (Ballina); Kate Ryan (Ballina), Eimear Heffernan (Scariff-Ogonnelloe), Ellen O’Donnell (Ballina); Elitza O’Connor (Ballina), Roisin Murnane (Smith O’Brien’s), Aine Boland (Broadford); Abby Walsh (Scariff-Ogonnelloe), Ella Ryan Meaney (Truagh-Clonlara); Amy McCarthy (Ballina), Sarah McNamara (Smith O’Brien’s), Lucy Pearl (Smith O’Brien’s); Ava Neary (Ballina), Siobhan McMahon (Smith O’Brien’s), Karen O’Mahony (Smith O’Brien’s)
