Clonlara win U-16B hurling title

Clonlara won the U-16B hurling title thanks to a great first-half display, during which they outscored their opponents 3-8 to 0-4.

Playing with the aid of a galefore wind in Clarecastle on Sunday, Clonlara had goals from Michael O’Loughlin, Sean Moriarty and Ciaran Downey.
Broadford fought back in the second half and their cause was helped when Clonlara captain and full-back, David Begley was red-carded following a second yellow in the 13th minute. The resultant 20m free was crashed to the net by Shane Taylor. A further goal from Stiofan McMahon brought the lead down to manageable proportions but Clonlara, despite being a player short, held on for a merited victory.
After the game, Clare Bord na nÓg chairman Martin Reynolds presented the trophy to the winners.

The opening game in Clarecastle on Sunday was the U-16B shield final in which Crusheen-Tubber proved too strong for O’Callaghan’s Mills.
The amalgamation outfit made better use of the scoring chances that came their way.
