Clare well represented in National Cross Country Championships

The Athletics Ireland National Inter-counties Cross Country Championships will take place in Tattersalls, Ratoath, County Meath this Sunday, along with the All-Ireland even ages at U-12, U-14, U-16, U-18 boys and girls, along with the junior men’s and ladies. The starting time is 11.30am. The junior men’s and U-18s boys’ 6,000m race starts at 1.25pm, followed by the junior ladies 4,000m at 1.50pm, the senior ladies’ over 8,000m at 2.10pm, with the final race of the day the senior men’s 10,000m at 2.50pm.

Clare will be represented in all grades. In the ladies’ senior, Clare will be looking to Barbara Cleary, who hails from Miltown Malbay and runs with Donore Harriers Dublin. She had a very good run in the Dublin senior cross country and the British and Irish Masters and she will be looking for a top 10 finish, along with Eimear Power, Veronica Colleran, Marie Carey, Cushla Bríd Hehir and Noreen Mackey.

In the senior men’s race over 10,000m, Clare athletics followers will be looking for a big performance from Sean Hehir (Kilkishen) and running with Rathfarnham AC in Dublin along with Rory Chesser ((Ennis Track), Michael (Shannon), Damian Landers, Dermot Galvin, Kenneth Rodgers (all St John’s), Jason Fahy, James McIntyre (both (BMOH), Brian McGinley, Michael Maher (both (Ennis Track) and Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare).

All-Ireland juvenile
In the All-Ireland Juvenile Even Ages Championships, the first race will be the girls’ U-12.

16 Clare Athletics relays trials U-10s, U-12s U-14s at the Lees Road Sports Complex starting at 10am for Munster Cross Country Championships in January.
