Clare lifesavers break national records


CLARE competitors broke national records at the National Stillwater Lifesaving Championships held at the UL pool last weekend. Almost 200 of Ireland’s top lifesavers competed in various lifesaving events.

Clare’s Adam McEvoy set two individual national records with a time of 1.04:77 in the 100m manikin tow and fins and again in the 50m manikin carry with a time of 33.33.
The Clare men’s team broke the record with a time of 1.53:35 in the 200m obstacle relay and 1.28:97 in the 100m 4x25m manikin (R). Clare broke the record for the 200m medley relay with a time of 1.51:18. The Clare girl’s team broke the record for the 200m medley relay with a time of 2.05:79.
The team rankings saw Clare taking first place in the ladies and men’s senior teams and also in the girls and boys junior teams.

Nipper helpers
Helping on the day with setting up the courses and moving the manikins were young Nippers (aged between 10 and 14) from Clare, Tara McEvoy, Róisín Cahill, Aoife Glavin, Meabh Moriarty, Niamh Staunton, Niamh Dolan, Rachel McMahon, Noel Shannon, Harry Broderick, Dara Gleeson, Rory McEvoy, Hugh McMahon and Patrick Cooney.
They will be amongst the competitors at the National Nipper Stillwater Pool Championships to be held in Kilkenny on April 16.
