Christmas hampers at Lahinch Golf Club

The Christmas hampers were played for at Lahinch on Saturday and Sunday, where there was a good entry.

 

Saturday’s winner was Frank Keane (10) with 38 points from Ronan Ryder (15) with 37 points, with third spot filled by Gus Neylon (12) with a similar score

On Sunday, the winner was Michael Cagney (13) with 43 points from Eamon Ryan (15) with 40 points, with third spot filled by John O’Gorman (21) with 39 points.

In the ladies’ hampers competition on Saturday, Niamh Whelan (11) was the winner with 39 points from Marie O’Connor (16) with 38 points.

The open singles on Thursday was won by Pat McBride (15) Rathdowney, with 40 points from Pat Barriscale (9) Adare with 38 points with third spot filled by Jack Ryan (11) Lahinch with 38 points.

In a ladies’ turkey fourball on the Castle Course on Saturday, the winners were Gráinne D’Alton (5) and Ann Vaughan (13) with five up. The winner of a ladies’ turkey singles on the Castle Course on Sunday was Margaret Cooney with 38 points.

Kilrush
Last week’s men’s seniors team outing at Kilrush was won by Brendan McNamara, Noel Cooney and Tom Clarke from Noel Thornton, TJ Lyons and Sean Moran, with third spot filled by John Robinson, Michael Ryan, Tom Cleary and Tom O’Dea.

The ladies’ October singles was won by Marion Brennan with 38 points from Margaret Clune, who had a similar score. Mary Collins was third with 33 points.

The winter league continues this coming week. After week three, Tom Cleary’s team leads from Anthony Burke’s team, with Pat Shannon’s team in third spot followed by Tony McMahon’s team and Murt Collins’team.

From this Sunday, there will be a weekly singles competition for turkey vouchers. The competition will run from Sunday to Saturday inclusive and re-entry will be allowed.

Members are reminded that the closing date for receipt of nominations and motions for the committee is Thursday, November 22.

Ennis
Ennis Seniors held a team-of-three competition last week in which 93 players participated. The winners with 52 points were Tom Pilkington, Pat O’Reilly and Michael Vaughan from Sean O’Gorman, Frank Landy and Seamus D’Arcy on 51. In third spot with 50 points were Jim Scully, Terry Hughes and Pádraig Ryan followed by Sean Fitzpatrick, Peadar Cosgrove and Michael Kenny with a similar score. In fifth spot were Noel Connellan, JJ Coyne and Jimmy McNamara on 48 points followed by Charlie McEnery, Pat McGuire and Willie Moloney.

In the turkey fourball on Sunday the winners were Matt Flynn and Michael Culliney with 51 points from John Nevin and Seamus Bowe on 49 points. They were followed by Martin Daly and Peter Cosgrove with 48 points, Alf Jones and James Clune with 48 points, Mike Considine and Gerry Gilligan with 46 points with sixth spot filled by Enda Heaney and Kieran Ryan with 46 points.

Doonbeg Links

The winners of the semi-open fourball at Doonbeg last week were Kieran Golden and Seamus Griffin.
In last week’s singles, the winner was Ger Ryan from Hugh McNally with Declan Conway in third place.

The winner of the previous week’s competition was Liam Hayes from Tom O’Dea. The next singles competition will be on Sunday, November 25.

Dromoland

The men’s weekend turkey competition at Dromoland was won by Frank Travers, 43 points from Seamus McEnery with 39, Aidan McMahon with 38 and Bobby Deegan with 38. The junior winner was Dale Foley with 38.

This weekend’s men’s competition will be for turkeys.

In the weekly ladies’ competition the winner was Cora O’Toole from Mary Arthur. The junior winner was Anne O’Toole.

East Clare

Last week’s winners in the men’s seniors competition at East Clare were John Brett, Martin Kelly and Kevin Burke from Tim McGrath, Jack Manly and Tim McGillicuddy, with third spot filled by John Stack, Pat Clancy and John Fleming.

In the ladies’ seniors section, the winner was Margaret McNamara from Joan Kinsella with Brigid Minogue in third spot.

The ladies’ club annual general meeting is on next Wednesday.

Gort
The men’s competition at Gort at the weekend was an 18-hole singles for hampers. The winner was Brendan Gantley (11) with 45 points from Philip Dunne (21) with a similar score. In third spot was Derek Kinsella (18) followed by Owen O’Donnell (21). The gross was won by Colman Cooney (3) with 36 points. There will be another singles hampers competition this weekend.

In the ladies’ section, last week’s singles mini hampers competition was won by Helen McCormick (20) with 29 points from Ann Jordan (33) with 26 points.

There will be a similar Christmas mini hampers competition for ladies in the coming week.

Shannon
The winners of the mixed hamper competition at Shannon at the weekend were Tom Prendergast and Ailish Sheehan with 43 points from William O’Brien and Mary Sheehan with 42, Dympna Hogan and Ger Shanahan, also with 42 points. The gross was won by Padraic Cahillane and Michelle Pyke with 31 points.

Spanish Point

The seniors open for male and female golfers continues each Tuesday at Spanish Point. Last week, the winner was Willie McNamara (16) with 39 points from Eamonn Murphy (11) with a similar score.

The format for last week’s club turkey competition was a two-ball scramble, stroke and against the par of 68 with a score of 47 nett. The winners were Mervin (17) and Fergal Hehir (15). In second place were Harry Crowe (17) and Carl O’Neill (28) with 48.5 nett. This weekend, there will be a singles competition and timesheets are in the clubhouse.

Portumna

The singles competitions at Portumna at the weekend produced the following winners: Category 0-10, Matt Donoghue (8) 32 points; Category 11-14, Kevin Power (12) 31 points; Category 15-18, Eoin Slattery (16) 38 points; Category 19 and over, Joe O’Brien (21) 29 points; Seniors, Mike Keyes (8) 29 points.

Woodstock

The winners of the weekly seniors team-of-three modified scramble, played over 15 holes at Woodstock were Richard Pyne, Brendan Arthur and Tom Malone with 46 points.

In the hampers competition, Cathal Nagle (10) won the 0-10 category with 45 points while John Dormer (19) was the winner of the 11-plus handicap section and he also returned 45 points.

There will be a similar competition this weekend when prizes will again be based on handicap categories.

This Saturday night there will be an end-of-season presentation night in the clubhouse at 8.30pm.
Amongst those who will receive prizes are Niall Reynolds, who will be presented with the golfer-of-the-year award.

Clare Teachers

The Clare Teachers Society will hold an outing to Gort this Saturday, when the tee will be available from 10.30am.

Doonbeg Society
The Doonbeg Society’s captain’s (John Igoe) prize will be played for at Doonbeg Links this Saturday, when the tee will be available from 10am to 12 noon. The presentation of prizes will take place in the clubhouse afterwards. Contact 086 2799254.

Pitch and Putt

Gerry Kierce was the winner of the strokeplay competition at the Clare Road Pitch and Putt Club on Sunday. The runner-up was Michael Kerin and Marty Fawl won the gross.
